Canfield Solitaire is an engaging and challenging single-player card game. The objective is to move all the cards to the foundation piles, following specific rules.

Setup:

  1. Use a standard 52-card deck for Canfield Solitaire.
  2. Shuffle the deck and deal 13 cards face down as the reserve pile.
  3. Place one card face up from the reserve pile to create the foundation pile.
  4. Deal four tableau columns, each containing one card, below the foundation pile.
  5. Place the remaining cards face down as the stock pile.

Objective:

  1. The goal is to build four foundation piles in ascending order, starting with an Ace and ending with a King, for each of the four suits (Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, Spades).

Round Play:

  1. Cards in the tableau columns are arranged in descending order and alternating colors. For example, a black 10 can be placed on a red Jack.
  2. You can move a single card from the tableau or the reserve pile to the foundation piles if it matches the suit and is one rank higher.
  3. Empty spaces in the tableau columns can be filled with a King or a packed sequence starting with a King.
  4. You can draw cards from the stock pile to the reserve pile (one at a time). The top card of the stock pile is turned face up.
  5. When there are no more available moves in the tableau, reserve pile, or stock pile, you can shuffle the stock pile to create a new reserve pile. This can be done up to three times.

Winning:

  1. The game is won when all four foundation piles are built in ascending order, each starting with an Ace and ending with a King.

Tips:

  • Plan your moves carefully and consider the implications of each move on future plays.
  • Empty spaces in the tableau are valuable for moving Kings or building packed sequences.
  • Use the stock pile wisely, and don't rush to shuffle it until you've explored all available options.
  • Prioritize moving cards to the foundation when possible, as it's your main goal.

Canfield Solitaire is a challenging game that combines strategy and patience. It's known for its unique gameplay and offers a rewarding experience for solitaire enthusiasts.

Canfield Solitaire sounds like a solid way to keep the mind sharp while waiting out the chaos. I love that it combines strategy with patience—two skills we all need, especially in uncertain times. 🃏

Setting up the game the right way is key, and I appreciate that it emphasizes planning your moves. I can see how those empty tableau spaces can be a game-changer, just like having a bug-out plan ready when SHTF.

The part about shuffling the stock pile makes me think about resource management in real life. Use what you have, but don’t waste it. Makes sense.

I might give this a try during the next rainy day. After all, self-sufficiency isn't just about physical supplies; it's about keeping your mind in shape too! Anyone have tips on how to stay focused while playing? Distractions can sneak up on you fast.

Canfield Solitaire sounds like a solid way to pass the time, especially when you’re cooped up at home prepping for whatever might come our way. I love that it’s not just about luck; there’s a real strategy involved, which keeps things interesting.

The whole idea of using the reserve pile wisely is key. I can see how planning moves ahead of time is crucial—kind of like when you’re deciding what gear to pack for a bug-out situation. Empty spaces in the tableau being valuable for Kings or sequences? That makes total sense.

And the shuffling of the stock pile after you’ve exhausted options is a neat twist. Definitely encourages you to think ahead before using that lifeline.

I can see myself getting sucked into this game during downtime. It’s nice to have something mentally engaging that doesn’t involve screens for a change. 🙌 Anyone else tried this out? What strategies have worked best for you?
