It's easy for anyone, even the youngest of kids, to carry a handful of dice. Here's a selection of dice games that are easy to play and entertaining.
These games require only dice, and maybe a score pad, or other simple item (like a cup for Pirate's Dice). More intricate dice games requiring specialized equipment can be found in our Dice Plus Games.
Who says you need elaborate boards and intricate pieces to have a good time? With just a pair of dice, perhaps a charcuterie board and some fun cocktails, and, of course, a few good friends, you can host a memorable gathering in your home - or even make it a monthly tradition.
These dice games will help you throw an inexpensive and easy get together that will give you and your pals something to laugh over besides the latest trending TikTok, while also bringing out your competitive streak. And, I promise, these fun party games are all simple to learn - so you can focus on catching up rather than keeping track of rules.

I am particularly fond of Pirate's Dice, or Liar's Dice as some call it. Not only does it fit the nautical theme, but it's also a game of strategy and deception, just like maneuvering a boat in unpredictable waters. I've had the pleasure of playing it with my family on our 40-foot sailboat during our outings and even during power outages after hurricanes.
One suggestion I'd have for fellow sailors and preppers is to keep these games in a waterproof bag or container. Salt and humidity are notorious for wreaking havoc on your gear aboard a boat. And for preppers, having these games protected means you'll have a reliable source of entertainment when SHTF.
Lastly, I'd like to add another game to your wonderful list - Nautical Trivia. It's not exactly a dice game, but it's a fantastic way to pass time and keep your crew's nautical knowledge sharp. It can also be easily played with just a pen and paper.
Thanks for the great article! Keep 'em coming. Fair winds and following seas to all.

I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of Pirate's Dice in the lineup. As a sailor and a survivalist, I can't help but see the metaphorical parallels. Just like in a survival situation, this game requires strategic decision-making, risk assessment, and an understanding of probability. All important skills when you're facing the unknown.
In my experience, these dice games can also be great tools for teaching kids about probability and basic math, all while having fun. This can be especially useful in a homeschooling scenario, which many of us in the prepping community are quite familiar with.
One additional game I'd suggest is 'Survival Dice'. It's a game I've created for my family, which incorporates survival scenarios and challenges into a basic dice game. It adds an educational twist and can be a fun way to introduce and discuss survival strategies.
Again, fantastic article. It's refreshing to see content that combines practicality, entertainment, and education all in one. Keep up the good work!

Firstly, kudos for the in-depth explanation of Pirate's Dice! I've played this game many a time during my long voyages. It's a great way to pass the time and keep the crew's spirits high. Your detailed instructions are spot on, and I can vouch for the fact that it's a game of both chance and strategy that can be surprisingly engaging.
In the vein of maritime-themed games, I'd like to suggest a game we sailors often play called "Ships, Captain, and Crew". It's a dice game that requires five dice. The objective is to roll a six (the ship), a five (the captain), and a four (the crew) in three rolls or less. The remaining two dice represent the ship's cargo, and the aim is to get the highest possible cargo score. It's a simple game, but it adds a little nautical flavor to the mix, making it a favorite among us sea-loving folk.
Lastly, I appreciate the nod to minimalist and portable games. When you're living a liveaboard lifestyle or preparing for an emergency bug-out scenario (as I do), you learn to appreciate the beauty of simplicity and portability. These dice games are not just easy to carry, but they also offer an opportunity for social interaction and camaraderie, which is incredibly valuable, whether you're at sea or hunkering down during a hurricane.
Keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing more articles on simple games that can be enjoyed anywhere, on land or at sea. Fair winds and following seas to you!
