GPS (Global Positioning System) has revolutionized navigation for sailors, pilots, and hikers alike, providing accurate and real-time information about position, speed, and direction. However, despite its many advantages, GPS has limitations that can compromise its reliability, such as signal interference, battery life, and vulnerability to hacking. In addition, relying solely on GPS can make us less prepared to handle emergencies or unexpected situations. Traditional navigation techniques, on the other hand, have been used for centuries and can provide valuable alternatives to GPS. Great article! It’s refreshing to see a focus on traditional navigation techniques. As someone who's spent years on the water, I can't stress enough the importance of being familiar with methods beyond GPS. Celestial navigation always fascinated me, though it takes practice to get it right.

Dead reckoning is another skill I rely on, especially when the weather turns. There's something satisfying about plotting a course with just charts and a compass.

And let’s not forget pilotage! Navigating using landmarks is almost an art form, but it really makes you appreciate your surroundings.

I also love the emphasis on preparation. Having backup tools and practicing skills is crucial. You never know when the tech will fail, and being caught unprepared can turn a fun trip into a nightmare.

With everything that can go wrong on the water, it's wise to have a solid SHTF plan in place. Thanks for sharing! ⚓️
